Hand-Stitched for the Fashion Show

It didn't occur to me until the day before the Alley 33 Fashion Show that I didn't have anything to wear to the event.  In a flurry of needles and thread and more than a few Grey's Anatomy episodes on Netflix, I created this:

I used Natalie Chanin's simple t-shirt pattern and then created my own appliqué using scraps of cotton.

Then I combined it with a hand-stitched Alabama Chanin skirt that I had already created.

Here's a close up of the itty-bitty stitching in the skirt:

I know these photos aren't great.  Photography just isn't my strong point.  And would you know that I failed to get a picture at the event.  I was working at the VIP ticket booth and things were going going going until the end.  Oh well.  In a sea of little black dresses I definitely stood out.  Hopefully not like a sore thumb.

  1. What a wonderful outfit. Love the skirt - is it the one with the longer back? I'm sure you looked fantastic amongst all the LBDs.

    1. Hi Kathrin, Thanks! Yes, it's the skirt with the longer back-- although I had to remove the length on the back because it was too long for me. It's been my favorite skirt to wear this summer though by far.
